Unlawful ticket?

Not sure if this is the right group. 
So my husband was driving home and he got pulled over. He had cruise control on 46 and the limit was 45. He always goes slow through that town to be safe. The cop said he was going 54 and gave him a $185 ticket. No warning, nothing. My husband said there were a couple cars going fast that passed him and that maybe the cop clocked them by mistake. My husband is a sweetheart, so I know he wasn’t rude To the officer and I know he isn’t lying. Isn’t that a bit ridiculous for a ticket?? Should I even bother with court? I’m just so mad! My husband is so kind and was literally driving home from dropping kids off after church. Cops taking advantage like that really gets on my nerves. My father (an ex cop) said that they would have never ticketed someone even if they had been going 9 over (which my husband was not). Ugh, I’m just insanely frustrated.

I would go to court since it's $185, most likely the cop won't even show up and it will be thrown out.

With out evidence they are going to dismiss your claim and make you pay the ticket anyway.

You really can’t fight it because you have no evidence to produce. It’ll be his word vs the officers and obv the person getting the ticket is seen to be more likely to lie ab the situation in the courts eyes......

Go to court. The cop is the one who has to provide evidence, it's likely he wont even show up. If he does, ask about how thick the traffic was and how sure he was he gunned your husband's car and the chance it wasnt his. Any uncertainty is a win for your husband

The cop who gave the ticket isnt obligated to be like your father or any other cop and give a warning first or have a certain amount over the limit in order to give a ticket.  Unless your husband knew the cop, the cop has zero knowledge of him other than he caught him going over the limit so your claim of character is irrelevant to why you think he was given the ticket.  Other drivers dont matter either unfortunately, your husband wasn't being bullied. The cop was doing his job and not taking advantage of anything. His best option is to try and dispute it.

I would go to court for it and let him explain that situation. If he doesn’t have a history of traffic violations, it was only 9 over the limit (my fiancé is a police officer and won’t give a speeding ticket unless they are going 15+ over the limit). You will have to pay a court fee but I highly doubt it would be $185. I’d say it’s worth a shot.
