Doctor freaked me out over Baby’s bowel in ultrasound
Hi Ladies,
I had an ultrasound this morning and the perinatologist is concerned about the baby’s bowel. In the ultrasound, it is showing up much more brightly than it should, indicating that there is a concentration of extra fluid of some sort there.
Without going into detail, I’m just gonna say that his delivery of all of the following information was horrible and it freaked me out. He spent a LONG time talking about the possibilities of what this could indicate and the worst case scenario side effects.
Some possibilities based on the fluid in the bowels include: Down’s syndrome (although highly unlikely in my case based on other test results), toxoplasmosis, cmv, cystic fibrosis, and the possibility that the baby swallowed some blood from a small undetected placental abruption that reattached on its own.
After explaining all the worst case scenarios, he says “or everything could be totally fine and it’ll resolve on its own.” And he also says “I’m being very conservative and cautious and want to rule out every possibility.” So I’m getting a bunch of blood tests now and going back in a month so they can monitor baby’s bowels.
Anyway, I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else here experienced similar results during your ultrasound and your baby’s bowels, and what the outcome was. I’m trying to be optimistic here, but his delivery really frustrated me. I’m still not sure how to feel after all of that.
