How do you know its time to transition?

My son loves being swaddled but also loves to pull his arms out of it. Sometimes he doesnt mind his arms being out...others he will cry until his arms are back in. What does this mean? No signs of rolling over yet so not worried about that part. When should we start transitioning and what are these "signs" people are talking about?

Just try without every once in awhile. We tried, she uses an arms up swaddle, but she kept hitting herself in the face and waking herself. She’ll be in the arms up swaddle at least another month

Maybe try the Merlin’s sleep suit? I’m going to have to get it soon.

My LO was breaking her arms out of the swaddle fairly regularly around 9 weeks. I swaddled her one arm out for about a week, which went well. Someone had gifted me a Merlin sleep suit, so I tried that one night and she loved it! However, my friend said that her baby had a hard time transitioning out of it once he started fully rolling over and sitting up. So, one night I tried my LO swaddled (around her chest) with both arms out and she did great! That’s what we’ve been doing for about a week and she’s 11+1 now :)

Start with naps is always what I do first. Been doing naps unswaddled for almost a week. Tried a few nights and his sleep was still very much impacted 🙄 My advice is that it definitely takes time for them to adjust so start the transition now!  That way you have time to ease him into it before he starts rolling over.
