Inconsolable nighttime fit

My little one woke up the other night screaming like I’ve never heard. I ran in there and picked her up and could not get her to calm down. She asked for books but screamed even louder when I read to her. It seemed like everything was terrifying her. I eventually started cleaning her room to try to ignore the fit since nothing I was doing was helping. She continued to cry despite any efforts to calm her. I eventually put her back in her crib and she cried for a few more minutes then fell asleep. The entire episode lasted a good 30 minutes. It was heartbreaking, I’ve never seen anything like it. She’s usually a very happy girl. Has anyone experienced anything like this?
