My doctor wants to do it twice. Is that normal?

So background story. With my daughter I had gestational diabetes but only took one test (3hours long). 
I’m 22 weeks pregnant with my second baby and I already took my gestational diabetes test and I don’t have it this time around. Thank God. 
However, she wants me to do another one next month again. I live in Switzerland(but I’m American) and I don’t know anyone here who can take care of my daughter. She’s 18 months so having her sit for with me for 3 hours is not an ideal situation. I told the doctor I don’t want to take it a second time as I feel it’s a bit unnecessary.  
Has anyone taken the gestational diabetes twice? Would I skip it?

The test is normally done around 28 weeks. So if you did it at 22 weeks you'll have to repeat it later in because you have a higher risk of it popping back up. Its better safe than sorry. I had to do it twice my 3rd pregnancy because I had it with my 2nd.

At the practice I go to if you had GD with one pregnancy you take the test twice with the next (one time early and if you pass then again at normal time). You’re at higher risk of it since you had it before.

I’ve had to do it twice due to my age. It’s because it can develop later in your pregnancy just because first test is negative doesn’t mean you won’t debtor later on.

I took it twice with both pregnancies  ..... Both were negative but my doctor did it twice due to my daughter were measuring larger and they had already moved up my due dates and they were still measuring ahead. I think it's up to you I did it because well with my first I didn't know any better and with my second it got me to see baby again as doc also did an ultrasound while I waited. This pregnancy I am only doing it once though

I passed At 28 weeks but at 34 ish weeks started getting super thirsty all the time so did it.l a second time at 36 weeks and failed.

Yes. If you're at high risk they want to catch it early. But if you pass, you could still get it 3rd trimester due to hormonal surges and your pancreatic function  (that's why they typically don't test until 3rd trimester because that's when it tends to show up) but I only had to do the 1 hour unless I failed it
