My soon to be ex husband has decided to completely abandon our sons. And I can’t fathom how he could do it. They’re my entire world and they mean nothing to him. My heart is broken for them.

you can’t force him. as much as you may be right that the kids don’t deserve this, there isn’t much you can do. what’s worse: having a “father” around who feels forced to be there or one not there to be in and out anyway? he said what he said so take it to the courts from there. just make sure he gives his financial support.

If your ex husband doesn’t want to see them, there is nothing you can do. Take full custody and parent them on your own. He’s hurt and feels ripped off. I went through this in a 3 year divorce. Give him time. I eventually settled on 50/50 with my ex. It was a long road and he didn’t see them for over a year in the beginning but it’s what’s best for them. Just give him time.

See what he doesn't realize is that someday another man could come into your life and treat HIS sons like their own and he'll have done that to himself. He's trying to hurt you and be petty so just leave it. Be careful how you talk to your kids about him and his lack of contact. Say as little as possible, but she appropriate. Do not bash him to your kids in any way. That always backfires and makes the kids resent you.

Have him sign his rights over while hes still acting like an asshole and be done. My dad didnt really want anything to do with me but started visiting with me when I was 5 after not seeing me for years because he got a new gf and wanted to play daddy. He constantly used me as a pawn to upset my mom and made my life hell. I made the choice at 13 to stop visitation, the courts took my side and I havent seen him since. I'll be 25 next month and it was the best decision I made.
