How do I get my boyfriend comfortable around our daughter?!

Help! I have a 3 month old daughter and her dad isn’t comfortable being alone with her. I asked him to watch her for about 5 hours tonight while I go babysit a friends child and he said “ I don’t think I’ll be able to do it because she’s used to being around you.” Then he asked “why can’t you take her with you?” What can I do to make him comfortable with her and changing diapers and putting her to sleep?

He will just have to do those things.  The only way is by doing.  Which he should be doing those things not just you

He just needs to do it. He needs to leave his comfort zone. If he hasn't watched the baby alone before 5hrs may not be the best idea. Start with an hour so isn't overwhelmed. The more he does it the more comfortable he will be. Honestly its not a choice he is a parent now.

Throw him into it. He's a parent, and he has access to all the tools you have (internet, books, etc). If he can't figure it out, then you have bigger issues.

Just gotta jump in. Have him spend a few hours taking care of her by himself when you are home. He can ask questions but has to do everything. Then just go. He's a father and absolutely can take care of her.

He’ll get more confident the more he’s forced to do it. He just needs to see that he can survive a night on his own and he’ll start to gain that confidence. There’s no reason he can’t be trusted with her alone. Just be as encouraging as you can. Whatever you do don’t hold off any longer. 3 months is pretty late for him to be getting used to being alone with baby.

He should be doing those things already, even if you are home. It's only fair. Even if he works and you don't have him take over here and there. My husband does that. I'm currently on maternity leave and my husband's paternity leave is over but he will take the baby to feed or just hangout. Not only do you deserve the break but the babys not gonna get used to him if he never interacts with her.

And I’d start small. I wouldn’t go from him having no idea how to do those things all the way to having him watch the baby alone for five hours.

He goes to school Monday- Friday from 7am to 4pm so he’s not used to being alone with her. I’m always with her and taking care of her. Don’t get me wrong he makes bottles and changes diapers every once in a while but that’s kinda it. He plays with her and stuff while I’m home. If im home and she poops he brings her to me and says she needs to be changed. He says he’s not comfortable with changing a poopy diaper because he doesn’t know how. (I’m not sure if it’s because she’s a girl or what)
