Catheter story?

So after having my little girl Monday I was unable to urinate and had a catheter inserted for 72 hours which ends tomorrow morning. Anybody have this happen and we're able to pee once it was taken out? Terrified I'll never be able to wee on my own again

Just remember that after having a catheter inserted in your bladder, the same nerves that make you feel like you "need to go" are being shut off by the bulb that keeps it in place. That's why, after several hours of having a catheter in place, you don't feel it anymore. Your brain is tricked into opening the sphincter to allow you to empty your bladder constantly because the bulb sits on those nerves. Sometimes it can take hours after removal for you to feel that urge again.

Mine wasn't 72 hours but I have had one with both babies. My first I had it in for about 13 hours and my second it was in for maybe 5 or 6 hours. With my first I couldn't feel I needed to pee. I'm sure it was the after effects of the epidural but I had no idea if my bladder was empty or not. I hadn't peed since they took the catheter out so I told myself to get up and pee. I wasn't numb from the epidural anymore though, I could walk. I got like three steps and peed all over myself and the floor.
After that initial time I never had an issue again.
With my second I was fine the entire time and actually felt like I had to pee extremely badly all of the time.

I didn’t have a permanent catheter, but I had an epidural so they emptied my bladder using a in and out catheter several times. After I felt my epidural had worn off and I was able to get up and go to the bathroom I still wasn’t able to pee so they emptied my bladder again. The next time I felt I needed to go I was able to.
