Child support

So I recently filed for child support bc my sons dad just doesn't pay much attention to him. He never ask me about my son, he never ask If I need help, I was out of a job for 2 months and he would still make me take my son to his house (he lives 40 minutes away) he doesn't get him often. never offered to come get him knowing I was using all the money I had saved for a house on gas and other utilities. He only spends about 4 days a month with my son so I was really fed up and I'm just wondering what all will happen? How does this all work and does it take a long time? Please no judging I've spent the last 3 years trying to be the better person.
