Natural labor story 19 years old
So although I am only 19 years old , this was the third time I have given birth. I gave birth to my first two daughters at 16 and 17 years old, and I had a natural labor with no medication with both as well.
With my first two I went into labor naturally before I was full term , so I figured I’d have this baby pretty early on as well. However he decided to stay in until I was 39 weeks and 2 days. On June 19th at around 2 am I woke up feeling very uncomfortable. Not in pain just uncomfortable. I kept feeling a lot of pressure “down there” as if baby was pushing down. I didn’t think anything of it until I realized this feeling was coming every ten minutes. It’s important to note that with my first two babies I didn’t feel my contractions until after they broke my water there at the hospital. So this time I didn’t know if what I was experiencing were contractions. I was also scheduled to be induced the very next day, so I was reluctant to go in. Still , I was uneasy so I gave L&D a call. When I got a hold of a nurse she informed me that I was scheduled to go in that morning at 2 am to be induced. I was so confused as I had my walking papers to be induced and they all said I was scheduled for the 20th. The nurse told me I was wrong and I had to go in anyway so I made my way to the hospital .
When I get there I’m still feeling pressure but no pain, and they make me wait in the waiting room for half an hour. Finally when they take me back to get situated everyone’s taking their time as they assume I’m not contracting and am just another induction. After they take my blood and all that, they get me hooked up to the machines to monitor baby’s heart and my contractions. To their surprise I was already contracting regularly. But since they had me down as an induction they were going to start me on pitocin . I asked them if they could check me first to see if there was any way we could skip the pitocin since I was already contracting regularly. The nurse was reluctant to check and she even told me I was probably still only 2 cm dilated as that’s how dilated I was at my last appointment.
When she checked me her eyes got big, and she told me I was already almost 7 cm dilated. She laughed and said “oh honey you’re not being induced you’re already in labor” . This was a little after 3 am. As time goes on I’m starting to feel contractions a bit more but I was fine. At 4:30 the nurse comes to check me again and I’m at an 8. Contractions were still good and I was honestly still smiling . A little after 5 am things got intense. I felt so much pressure so I asked the nurse to check me and I’m at 9 cm. She told me that if my water bag hadn’t popped by 6 am she’d come in and pop it herself . At 5:45 am I asked if she could just pop the water bag. I was still at 9 cm and had a feeling if they broke my water bag things would progress faster. She called the doctor on call, and he came in a few minutes before 6 am to break my waters. They checked me before they did and I was still at 9 cm. The pain was so intense by now I almost couldn’t take it. The doctor broke my water and before he even made it out the room I yelled for him to come back.
As soon as they broke my water I literally felt my baby “fall” and next thing I know I feel him crowning. I’m yelling at the nurse telling her that he’s right there and I need to push. She didn’t believe me but sure enough when she lifted my gown she saw baby’s head crowning. She tells the doctor not to go anywhere because he may need to deliver my baby. My own OB was supposed to come in at 6 am to check on another patient that had been in labor since the previous day and by now it was only a minute before 6 am. As soon as he gets there they let him know that he has to deliver me before the other lady. He comes in at exactly 6 am, and I’m screaming that I need to push . All my doctor does is put on his gloves and with my next contraction I’m “pushing” my baby out . I shouldn’t even say pushing because I didn’t even need to push really . They had just enough time to lift my legs and with the force of the contraction he was out. He came out so fast I didn’t need to push and I was so sure I tore. Luckily I didn’t tear and my baby was born at 6:01 am. I couldn’t believe how fast he came out , and I’m still in awe of how “easy” my birth was.
Everything went well with our recovery and I felt ready to go that day 😅 I still had to wait an extra day but I didn’t feel like I had just given birth . Here are some pics of my baby boy and labor 💛
At 5:03 am , almost an hour before he was born (my oldest was not happy lol) :
