Prom parties

Are ‘prom after parties’ a normal thing?? I have my prom soon and my friend is having an after party at her house. All of my friends are going but I don’t think my parents would want me to go as I wouldn’t get there until after 11:30pm, which my parents consider very late. (Although my friend did say I could sleep over)

Plus I don’t understand the concept...like what would I do with my dress and wouldn’t everyone be tired to party?
