What’s your diaper routine?

Do you guys use Desitin after cleaning the baby? She’s only 5 days old and it doesn’t look like she has a rash but it is red. What do you guys use after you clean the baby during diaper change? 
If not Desitin, what do you recommend? 
Or better yet, what’s your diaper routine?

I’ve been using aquaphor. It seems to help with the redness. I’ll use buttpaste when she has an actual rash, but aquaphor worked really well for my son for the first year.

Coconut oil is a great baby bum wetness barrier and can help when you start to notice redness

Wipe, fan dry (using the diaper as a fan), and then put the diaper on. If there’s redness I’ll put diaper cream on before I put the diaper on to prevent it from getting worse. I use honest diaper cream. He’s almost 2 and has never really had a rash.

I’ve never used any type of diaper cream. Just wipe and put on a new diaper.

My baby bottom looked red when she was horned. I think newborns just get red easily. Never put anything. Let her air dry a bit and now it’s not red anymore.

Take diaper off and put diaper on. I wipe if there’s poop or baby slept through the night. I don’t use cream or anything unless it looks like a rash is developing. Both of my babies’ little bottoms got irritated from wiping at every change, so we don’t do that. I can’t remember the last time we had a diaper rash.

I just wipe clean and put on a new diaper. If it looks like something is starting, I wipe clean, air dry by waving a clean diaper, smear on A + D ointment, and put on a clean diaper. The drying before placing a barrier cream is the most important part.

I don’t use a cream unless he has an actual rash. I just wipe him off, let him air out for a second, and put on a new diaper. Desitin does work best for him, other times we use A&D or Aquaphor.

We use vaseline or similar (Canada - the thing we have isn't everywhere). If you use a cream, make sure baby's bum is SUPER dry before you apply cream or else it will hold the moisture in instead of out, which will irritate baby. Also we don't use diaper rash cream unless there is a visible rash. Is baby red because you are wiping hard or they are irritated by the wipes? I'd look at that before deciding what to do.

I don’t use diaper cream unless a rash seems to be developing. If it’s just general redness it may not be a rash, but if it’s actually irritated seeming or patches that are more red then I make sure it’s not still wet from the wipe and then put either Boudreaux’s butt paste or baby aquaphor on it before putting the clean diaper on. They both work well for my son but it seems to depend on the rash. If I try one and it doesn’t start to look better by the next diaper change then I’ll use the other. Sometimes aquaphor works better and sometimes butt paste works better. I also sometimes put aquaphor on overnight as a barrier to help him stay dry now that he’s sleeping through the night.
