At what temperature should you take your 1 year old to the ER?

I’ve always been told to treat the child, not the fever. So if she has a fever of 102 but is acting totally fine, we keep a close eye on her/her temp but don’t take her in. If she has a fever of 100 but is lethargic and miserable, we give her Tylenol and call the doc.

101 starts to cause brain damage under 6 months. 103 is doctor after 6 months. Definitely Tylenol though at 101.  But that’s just my kids. You do you with your kids. Lol

I’m not 100% sure it’s quite that straight forward. I’m inclined to say it depends on other things (such as behaviors of the child - is child eating/drinking, are they lethargic, etc).  
But whenever I have a concern, I usually go with “when in doubt, call the pedi”.  I purposely picked a pedi with 24/7 emergency phone hours so I could call and ask if my child needs to be brought in or not. They usually ask me a few questions and based off of my answers, they let me know if it’s worth a visit or not.

I’ve seen a few people say 104. 104 is potential for seizures. I would never wait this long and risk possible brain damage. 
I take mine if anything over 101 that I can’t break in a 24 hour time period.

I agree with the other ladies saying look at the child’s behavior first. Our doctor prefers Motrin over Tylenol but is actually a strong believer in fever’s existing for a reason. She told us if his temp is 100 degrees and he’s lethargic/poorly responsive to take him in. But if it’s 103 and he’s alert and hydrated to let things run its course. Which is a total different approach to my first sons doctors whose answer to every fever is Tylenol. It would take an average of three days for him to recover.
We had our first 103 degree fever when our second son was 10 months and we didn’t give any medicine. He was alert but obviously tired. He laid on my chest for four hours sipping water from a sippy cup and the fever broke on its own. By morning he was completely recovered. Different doctors have different opinions. More and more doctors are suggesting Motrin now over Tylenol. 
I would just keep an eye on your child and call your doctor if it gets over 104 or if your kids becomes truly lethargic no matter what temperature.

Give the child Tylenol first too see if it goes down. But anything below 104 just take them to the doctor 🤦🏼‍♀️ don’t abuse the ER

I take my son in anytime it’s higher than 100 for the simple fact that if it’s something treatable like an ear infection or strep then we can start the antibiotics and get him feeling better ASAP.

I call and ask her ped if the fever doesn’t break within a day, and if it’s around 103-104. If there’s other possibly more serious indicating symptoms I’ll bring her to the ER but it’s annoying having to go to ER for hour or more and all the waiting so I avoid it if at all possible
