Instead of getting a double stroller, I'm thinking about wearing the 1-year-old backpack style in his baby carrier and using the stroller for the newborn. Does this sound realistic/doable?

Baby wear the new born in a sling or wrap, they love to be swaddled and need the body contact too!

I agree - wear the newborn!  Lots of slings and carriers will allow baby to sleep and even breastfeed in the carrier (discreetly) so you'd only have to get them out for a diaper change. Even at home with my newborn and two year old, I plan on wearing my newborn a lot.   I'm excited about the baby k'tan and ring sling the most!

It depends on how long you plan to be walking for. I would think after a while your back would hurt!

I by no means have any experience with this, but I'm just thinking how tiring or inconvenient it would be to have this as your only option. are you able to get one of those detachable parts that clip on to your existing stroller for your older child?
