Mom-pinions Needed. How much clothing is enough?
I recently finished purchasing clothing for our new arrival due at the end of the summer! I purchased clothing for her entire first year. I’m a very type A personality so I like to set a project and get it done and out of the way. I figure that way I won’t have to worry about it or budget for it later. I can focus on saving back up the money that I spent. ( plus shopping out of season saves so much money! I got a winter coat from Target for $6 when they are regularly $30+ in winter!!) For my first child I received a LOT of clothing as gifts. So my boy had at least 20 sleepers and onesies for any given age range. This was nice because I didn’t have to do laundry multiple times a week and also if I fell behind on laundry it was always okay because I had quite a few extra to last several days until I could get caught back up. The down side was that if I ever got behind there was a mountain of laundry. With this baby I decided that 10 sleepers, 10-15 onesies , 2 6packs of socks, 1 pair of shoes and 4 outfits in each size was reasonable for her first year. That way I’d end up doing laundry for her probably once or twice a week. My in laws think that this is crazy. I was told that if I’m not being gifted clothing from a shower it was best to just buy her clothing as I need it. ( ie wait until she grows out of a size to buy more instead of having a whole wardrobe) Do you think that they are right?
