Buying a house low credit

Hi everybody

My husband and i are starting to fix our credit to buy a house. We have made alot of progress paying off our debt and making things right and we have met with a realtor and lender to figure out what needs to be done. I occasionally check with the lender to see whats improved and how everything is looking.

My family however thinks very negatively about it and don't understand why im talking to a lender if i will never have perfect credit. Does it seem wrong to keep intouch with the lender even though our credit isnt in the 700s
