Urgent!! Help please!!

So today while cleaning my babys belly button I noticed a funky smell. Gently I start looking around and notice puss behind whats left of the umbilical cord. I also had the first Dr. Appointment for my 7 day old baby and I told the Dr. But he wouldnt even bother to check it and just told me to keep cleaning it with alcohol.

So I went home and with some cotton balls and q-tips I cleaned as best as I could. There's a small smell but I'm very concerned what if it is infected??? Do any of you ladies have any advice on how I can get rid of the puss and maintain it clean???
