Anyone else find it weird that a person will go out of their way to say hi to you on the street? Even when you’re on your phone clearly avoiding talking to people?

I’ve had a lot of these experiences lately and idk... it weirds me out. I’ll be walking down the street ON my phone (texting) and random men will make it a point to say hello to me. Or, there’s this one specific rent-a-cop/security guard at a bank I pass by that always says hi to me (and ONLY me) there’s always other people walking around me but I’m the only one who gets the weird hellos and hi’s. Am I over thinking it or is that weird?

I guess it could be weird. Where I come from people don’t generally say hi to people. I’m from New York. 😂

Its not really weird to me. I live in a small town in Georgia and most everyone says hey to each other.

I live in a place with an evenly split population. The people who say hi, and want or expect others to say hi back- and people who don't want to talk.
Lol its a weird environment. All the mega-hi ppl complain about the people who don't say hello or go on their phones in public. 
As for me, I think it's weird to be on your phone a lot in public, especially with earbuds, my opinion is that it's unsafe, (you can't hear your surroundings) and if you go inside of any business, I consider it rude. (Someone at their job may need to talk to you because it's their job.) But I also don't care at all about talking or saying hi. I only say hi back.
Maybe you are pretty, lol, if all these people like seeing you and want to say hi, even if you are clearly distracted. I could see it being annoying. That's why I try not to bother people.

I live in a small town outside Eugene Oregon. Everyone says hi to everyone. Riding down the bike trail it’s like hi, hello, hi, good morning, hello, how are you? Hi.
I love it.

When I go for walks I say Hi, or at minimum smile and nod to everyone I pass by and they do the same.  I think it’s friendly.

I say hi to people and people say hi to me all the time. Seems like you’re being a little over the top about it and trust me it’s not just you. Maybe get off your phone and you see the world 🤷🏻‍♀️
