Personally I want nothing to do with the rice cereal just because of the arsenic controversy. If it needs to be controversial, I just stray away from it in most cases. I started with oat cereal and my son didn’t particularly like it. So I moved onto orange vegetables and WOW he loooves carrots. So I’m still trying oat cereal every now and then, but I definitely lean towards veggies more.
My doctor said they are not even recommending either one anymore as there is no nutritional value. She said just do fruits and veggies no need to use the rice or oatmeal as a filler
We went with the oatmeal first and she love it. Now I’ve been adding a few other things in. She LOVES avocados! I’ve been waiting to introduce fruit or anything too sweet because I want her to like her veggies too! We might try bananas before too much longer though!
My baby doesn’t particularly like the cereals so I put some banana purée in it too and mix it with breastmilk to make it nice and runny. I’m not going to give rice, I prefer the oat cereal or maybe will try mixed grains with barley and such
The arsenic thing scares me about rice cereal so per my pediatricians request, we won’t be starting with that. Just purées when she’s 6 months old like I did with my son. Breast milk or formula is all that they need until 12 months old, food is just for fun !!
I do both, I like to pair veggies with the rice cereal and fruits with the oat cereal, just makes sense in my head. But just use your mommy instincts and always ask your doctor:)
