When to start maternity leave?

My company has a generous maternity policy, it says two weeks before due date to prepare for baby’s arrival and 14 weeks after that.  BUT I think if I don’t take the 2 weeks before I get 16 weeks after. 
I’d like to work as long as I can so I can have more time once he’s here.  But I’m a FTM so I don’t really know what’s reasonable. Like can I work until the day he comes or is that unrealistic?
So when do you guys plan on starting your maternity leave?

I worked up until the day I went into labor with my first and plan to do the same this time if I can.

My mom worked up until the day she went into labor. Her water never broke with me but it did with my little brother but it wasn’t nearly how the movies make it seem lol 😂  I would work as long as you feel comfortable and confident to get up and go to work !

It depends on your job and how you feel. I have a desk job and will work until delivery, and then I'm taking 12 weeks from there.

I’m a nurse . Work 12 hour shifts . It’s my first . So far so good! I feel good. Plan to work up to 39 weeks 🙏🤞

I work at a bank and am offered 16 weeks as primary caregiver. My plan was to work up to the week before my due date. My doctor suggested I leave at 38 weeks. She said since my first child was born early that women tend to follow the pattern. So Im gonna take it around them like she said. Which is fine, because my job can be stressful at times. So a nice little vacay before the real stress comes in works for me lol I’m due September 16th. Hopefully he doesn’t come late.

It depends on what you do. I work from home when I want so it’s easy for me to work until I have the babes. If you have to commute or be on your feet a lot maybe consider a week or two before!
