Baby watching tv?

Question

Should I not let my baby watch tv? He’s 5 months old and I only put on the baby channel for him, and I only let him actually lay down and watch it by himself whenever it’s nap time or bed time because he falls asleep so easy. But i’ve recently seen that they shouldn’t watch tv till he’s 2yrs old.. so should I completely cut tv off or is it okay for him to watch it to fall asleep?

Listen. I am aware of the recommendations and we do our best, but...life happens. I am a SAHM. Sometimes I let my daughter watch 10-15 mins of Netflix so I can load the dishwasher and use the restroom. She spends lots of time with toys and of course with me, but I probably give her like 30 mins of screen time a day. Sometimes you have to get stuff done and nothing else will do the trick. 🤷🏼‍♀️ You aren’t a bad or lazy mom. Limit is as much as possible, but do what you’ve got to do.

I really don’t think a baby should watch any screen at all 🤔 I would definitly stop doing that!

My child is 3, and they don’t watch TV unless it’s a documentary. Screen time is bad for babies and it shouldn’t be used as a babysitter or be used to put them to sleep. A 5 month old should be playing with toys not watching tv. 
I don’t allow screen time hardly at al because I want my child to play outside, play with their toys, and read books. Not rely on television as entertainment. 
But it’s your child. You can do what you want.

No. The recommendation is no screen time until 18 months, then only 30 minutes per day of educational screen time with a caretaker explaining what they are watching after the age of 18 months. Their brain is making millions of connections in the first 3 years and the brain is least stimulated while in front of a screen. You want to encourage solid connections, not hinder them. It’s also not good to put any person in front of a screen/blue light 2 hours before wanting them to sleep because it stops natural melatonin production and will lead to sleep issues in the long run.

As others stated, it’s not recommended or necessary for a baby to have screen time. I would also be VERY concerned about introducing it as a sleep association. But, your baby 🤷🏼‍♀️

i have a lot of baby cousins and i promise you kids really don’t watch tv. i couldn’t imagine sitting in a room with no tv or anything on. turn it on. put him down to play with toys. if he looks at it for a few minutes off and on i promise you he’ll be fine. we all watched tv or had it on in my family, and we developed just fine.

My baby likes looking at the tv and he's 4 months, he once watched an entire film 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't actively put it on for him, I put what I'm watching on and he sometimes decides to look, I know they recommend not to but I personally see no problem with it, it's not like your shoving them infront of a tv and ignoring them, you're still interacting with them or just doing a quick 5 minute job whilst theyre amused by it

I don’t let mine watch it that young. My first was probably 18 months when he started watching TV. I’m sure my second will watch some earlier because my older one already watches it but not before bed, we read books for bedtime.
