Acupuncture and IVF? Questioning...

Question

My insurance covers it, so I won’t have to pay too much out of pocket, but I have mixed feelings about doing acupuncture. I want to do everything that can help me get pregnant, but I also don’t want to waste my time and resources. The research overall seems to show very little statistical benefit, but there are some studies and anecdotal stories that show a lot. Has anyone felt this conflicted about it, too? If so, what did you decide and how did you make that decision?

I’m doing acupuncture with my ivf cycle now so I don’t know if it will be successful but I really feel like the acupuncture has helped me deal with the stress.

I started doing acupuncture prior to ttc for other issues. I was incredibly skeptical. I didn't understand how sticking a bunch of needles into me would help. I have found it to be soooooo beneficial for a variety of things. I love it and have continued to go regularly. I saw an acupuncturist who specialized in fertility and what he advised me (money was getting tight) was to see him after retrieval for comfort reasons and then again when it came time to transfer. He said to come 2 out of 3 of the following days: day before transfer, day of, day after. I chose day before and day of. My first transfer was a success and I have stuck with my regular acupuncturist who had me coming in more frequently in the 1st trimester for fetal support. I still do not know how it works, but it certainly did for me. I highly recommend it

I LOVE acupuncture. It helps me feel calm and centered. I’ve been doing it all through stims etc, and now I’m 7w2d.

I hated acupuncture. My insurance covered it too. I tried it once and knew it wasn't for me.

I tried acupuncture while we were doing IUI’s. None of our IUI’s worked.
Stopped doing it when we moved onto IVF. First round of IVF was successful.

I asked my doctor about acupuncture. She basically said it is helpful for some people during their IVF cycle, but not everyone. Her advice to me was that if I wanted to try it, only continue it if it is reducing my stress. I know for some people adding more appointments into the mix (along with another bill) may be stressful. I just booked my first acupuncture appt for this weekend. The guy I am going to only does fertility acupuncture. I figure I will try out this first appt and see how I feel. I am only going to keep doing it if I like it. I am getting ready for my second stim cycle coming up in August.
