Can I refuse ultrasounds?

Hey mommies!! Ok so here’s the situation, my baby is 3lbs at 8 months, however I had two steroids, and been drinking and eating tons of protein, I go back Tuesday for an ultrasound which I’m more than happy to pay for to see if he gained any weight! I was told by the person who handles the insurance that I will have to have an ultrasound every week until my delivery because of my baby being small.. my question is can I refuse ultrasounds every week, I feel it’s unnecessary and frankly looking at my baby will not make him gain any weight so I feel it’s a bit unnecessary for me to have one every week and honestly it’s all in God’s hands🙏🏽🙏🏽that’s $225 per ultrasound,,so has anyone experienced this?

It definitely seems medically necessary. You could be suffering from IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction) which is very serious and can lead to still birth. PLEASE follow your doctor’s advice and get an ultrasound every week until you deliver. Seriously.

You have the right to refuse any medical treatment, but your doctor also has the right to not treat you if you go against their medical advice. I’d just explain the situation to your doctor and see if maybe you can do an ultrasound every other week. Or, ask your doctor to explain why weekly ultrasounds are necessary

Are you going to max out your deductible on your insurance anyway? If so, it's just a matter of paying more of the deductible now versus later.
With my insurance plan, I'll definitely be paying my full deductible this year for the labor and delivery and what I've already paid to the ob.

Mine feel like tightening in my belly and then a lot of pressure and period like cramps in my lower back. I just try to breathe through them 😭

I experienced this with my first. I understand you feel it's unnecessary,  but the reason they're doing it every week is to make sure the placenta is working and making sure the baby doesn't stop growing, if something like that happens they will induce you/do a c-section and have the baby come early as the baby will be better off on the outside.

You have the right to refuse anything you don't want. From ultrasounds to taking the glucose test. 
I'd talk to your doc though and insurance.

I'm 33 weeks and baby is about 2.5 pounds, I have to have weekly ultrasounds too. Not because it will help him grow, but because I have an over-large placenta and we have to make sure he's getting enough nutrients and if not, pull him early. I totally understand money problems though and yes, of course, you can deny any medical treatment at any time.

I had weekly ultrasounds with my first to check his growth. Insurance covered them fully. You have the right to refuse them.

You definitely can refuse but the closer you get to your due date the better it is to have those things checked out. I wouldn’t cancel or refuse everyone but one here or there should be fine
