Today is day 1 of being done with that shit hole. I don’t know how I lasted almost a year. I am a hairstylist and ever since I graduated school and went looking for jobs I always run into disgusting behavior with salons. The first salon I applied to wouldn’t hire me because I’m black. The second salon was ok I learned a lot there but the boss would say some very not cool things like calling me a mutt etc (but trying to say it was a compliment..) and then this salon I was fired because I called out the owner on her behavior. She told my husband who was sitting waiting for a haircut while I was doing a walk in color client that he had to leave because it was Saturday (super busy) and other clients were leaving because there was “no where to sit”. There were actually 2 seats next to him. But this elderly Caucasian lady said she’d sit in her truck (in the heat) instead. My boss said she told him to leave because it was unprofessional him sitting there. What’s so unprofessional about a black man minding his business doing his taxes while waiting on his haircut? On top of that he’s military and is required to get these weekly haircuts btw. He felt extremely saddened, frustrated and uncomfortable hearing those words “she said you have to leave”. “Why” he asked, well we all know why. I told her recently that one of her employees (also Caucasian) was stealing from me and I didn’t appreciate it. She brushed it off And did nothing, even hang out at the beach with her the next day! I’m sure she had money to spend since she stole my product more than once. She was so comfortable doing it she would tell me “oh I used ____ while you were gone *giggles*. That was the final straw. I was the only other black employee besides one other girl and she told me how when they invite her out and there’s no one else around they use he N word to try and be cool and think it’s ok because she feels too uncomfortable to tell them to stop. Now her and her friends are threatening anyone who’s leaving a bad review to the salon after the incident because she thinks I’m sending them. Saying they’ll find where y’all work and write bad reviews back! When I tried to talk to her she said she had nothing to say that I better just take my stuff and go before she puts it outside. I was silenced, me and my husband mistreated. This is 2019 and it’s really disappointing being treated this way. But at this age (20) I’ve lived long enough that I have countless stories of disgusting behavior I have faced. I hate it, but from now on my voice will be heard.
