Can birth control pills have an affect on nail growth?

My finger nails have always been pretty weak and break easily. The only ones that would ever really grow long at all were my pinkies and ring fingers, then they would break.

Since I started birth control a couple months ago all of my nails have been growing like crazy and are extremely strong. I have to keep filing them down to keep them under control.

I was wondering if it could be due to my birth control (sprintec) and if anyone else has experienced this, or if the timing was just a coincidence.
