If my husband to old to conceive?

My husband is 28 years older than me, he just turned 51 and he really wants to have a baby with me. We have been trying for a whole year and nothing’s happened yet. Is it possible he’s too old to be fertile? :(

I hate to be the downer here but... studies have shown that fertility in men does decrease with age just as it does with women but at a slightly slower rate. Also, there are risks that come with age and pregnancy. There are certain genetic abnormalities that are more likely when your partner is over 40, such as the risk of Down syndrome is significantly higher. Studies have also shown that there are some mental disorders that are directly correlated to sperm from men that are over 40 such as schizophrenia. Of course that doesn’t mean that your child will have any abnormalities at all but I just wanted to let you know their are risks.

If you're concerned about it you can have him get tested to see what his sperm count and motility is like. Even so, my husband's count was a little low and we still managed to make a baby so it's not impossible if that's the case. My next step was to get put on some medication to help, but we never made it to that point. Talk to your or his doc.

Mine is 49, and we have been pregnant 4 times this year. Ain't nothing wrong with his sperm! (This last one's sticking!)

My dad was 55 when I was born and 58 when my brother came along.  My mom is 20 years younger than him.

Also I would just like to point out whenever a woman doesnt conceive everyones so quick to say it's the man who is infertile...a lot of the times it's actually the woman. So I would make sure you're fertile, you can ovulate but still not be fertile.

No hes not I work with a guy who is 56 and his wife is 37 and they're expecting a baby. I would say at that age though it's all about each individual's reproductive health.
