Acne advice
I’m a 32 year old black woman. I’ve always had acne prone skin from adolescence. When I was on the mirena my skin wasn’t as bad but over the years it cycles from really bad acne to okay. What I’ve tried before is one chemical peel, microdermabrasions and topical acne medications. I have the mia face brush and I exfoliate a couple of times per week. Also trying to just minimize what I use on my skin and being mindful of my diet. The last 6 months I have developed acne around and under my jaw line and on my neck leaving dark spots most prominent with my cycle but I have acne all month. I was using duac and with my new insurance it’s $85 and it’s not that effective to pay that much. I also have a Rx for Tretinoin but I try to limit use due to indications against pregnancy since I’m TTC. I need to get rid of these spots on my face y’all! I’m wearing make up daily and I’m starting to look like a man with razor bumps and it’s killing my self esteem. I’m still doing the microdermabrasions once a month. I rotate my face wash with salicylic acid and a gentle one like cetaphil to keep from overdrying my skin which is combination type. I wear sunscreen everyday. I need to drink more water but I don’t think that alone will revamp my skin overnight but I am working on that. I change my pillow covers. I use gentle detergent, wash my hands, I don’t drink caffeine. I’m at a loss. I keep seeing “hormonal acne” well what’s the hormone I need to fix to stop the acne?!? All my labs are fine. I thought of getting laser but I read that’s like an 18month process. And I want to have a very natural and simple skin care regimen. I saw a dermatologist and shes the one who gave me the duac, tretinoin and said to use benzoyl peroxide. That worked for a while but now it doesn’t work anymore. I need to stop the acne because eventually my skin will regenerate and the spots will be less but not if I keep breaking out. It’s making me so self conscious I hate for people to look at me. Suggestions please!!! What worked for you?
