Never had a boyfriend?

Question

So, I'm 20, I've never had a boyfriend before and I'm kind of afraid of being in a relationship with someone because I'm afraid they'll hurt me or that I won't be good enough. Also, I have huge trust issues and I'm not sure what dating/relationships are really all about. Any advice?

I think you should find a guy that would make a good friend first. See if that leads to best friends and then maybe more. Best friends can make great boyfriends because the trust is there as well as the understanding of each other. Just take your time and don't worry about him cheating on you, if he does than he isn't the one that is meant for you. Heartbreak hurts a lot but just don't let it stop you from finding the one that's meant for you because he's out there and he will love everything about you and will  make you feel like you are his queen. I think when it comes to putting your heart on the line, many people have trust issues. It's how you handle them that's important. If your letting them stop you from dating, you're giving them wayyy too much control over your life.  As a 45 year old woman, let me tell you that life is too damn short for that. You've gotta live it girl and a part of that is taking risks (as long as you're not putting yourself in physical danger). Falling in and out of love is what people do....it's a part of LIFE that you shouldn't run from but embrace it. If something happens and you end up breaking up, just know that too is a part of life and you CAN get over it. You're young and in your 20s, that's the time for you to be dating and getting to know guys/girls/whatever your preference.  LET THE DATING BEGIN! 😀

Brake up are never easy! No matter how long you date or what age you are. But you got to get out there and try dating if fun and a great feeling even if it don't last long. Best way to start out is to make a really great guy friend and then see if you 2 want more out of it. But have fun your young best time to date.

If you have auch big issues with even thinking about being in a relationship than in going to say seek counseling. I don't know you're history or why you have trust issues but therapy can only help you at this point. Being in a relationship is very emotional and challenging when you aren't at 100%. There are a lot of aspects to it, and they involve emotional connections, if you have trust issues you won't be able to connect with someone on that level. Whatever is going on with you can be helped with therapy. You are so young and I wouldn't want to see you jump out into the dating world and have one bad experience after another. Like myself, I've had some crappy relationships, but after therapy and some time I met my wonderful hubby who is just such a blessing to me and the kids. I want you to enjoy life not suffer like I did in my 20's. I wish you the best of luck in your future and a lifetime of happiness.

When it comes to dating, do alot of first dates. Always in public though... Have fun with it. If you feel a connection with someone (and when you do you will know). Keep dating him. See where it takes you. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Maybe you date 1 guy for 3 months and it's fun but something is missing, find a new guy and date him... eventually you will find someone who has everything you want or atleast tries to be. He is the keeper but even then you don't stop dating eachother. I'm getting married is 4 months and my fiance and we are still dating lol.

My first real boyfriend was when I was 26-27, and he is now my wonderful husband. We both waited to do much dating until we were ready to get married. And we dated very intentionally: it was clear that this was oriented around finding out whether we should marry one another and we made a real effort to be sure we talked about the things we would need to know to make that decision. I am so so grateful that this is the way we went about it. I think it really set us up for success.  (We now have a very happy marriage.)

So, for you I'd say that if you have trust issues, maybe you're just not ready yet for a relationship and/or marriage. There is nothing wrong with taking a few more years to grow up before you're ready. You have lots of time. I know I was in no way ready to get married when I was 20!!
