Should I replace my sons car seat after a minor accident?

I hit a deer (actually the deer jumped at the side of my car) cause Iowa is a shitty state full of deer. No airbags deployed and it was just body damage. My son wasn’t in the car so his car seat was empty. I was slowing down from 60mph (so anything less than 60 is what I was going) if that makes a difference. It just dented the side of my car. The deer even walked away fine so it wasn’t a bad accident.

Call the car seat manufacturer. When my husband’s car was swiped while parked on the street Graco said the car seat needed to be replaced. We submitted our receipt for the new seat (exact same one) and the insurance company reimbursed us.

Depends on the brand of the car seat, it should say in the manual... I would replace it considering the speed and that an impact occurred.  A lot of brands say to replace after an accident (even a fender bender).

Accidentally hit no 🤦🏼‍♀️ but it depends on your car seat. We have a Britax and the replacement requirements are if there was damage to the side of the vehicle the car seat is on, if there was any type of injury to any passenger (even minor ship lash) or if air bags deployed. But with a seat like Grace for example, they require replacement after any type of accident no matter how minor. Check your manual, call the manufacturer, but I’d say yes to be on the safe side given the speed and the body damage.

Ask your insurance company. Mine actually chose to replace the seat even though the manufacturer said it wasn't necessary.

I would guess it’s fine since there was no weight in the seat at the time if impact, but I’d still contact the manufacturer to be sure.
