How did you know you were done having kids

I know it’s a silly question as we all have newborns but....when/how did you know you were done having kids.

The hubs and I have always wanted 3. We have 2 girls (2.8 and 10 weeks). I had complications both pregnancies with this last one being high risk. The pregnancies definitely took a toll on my body. We didn’t come to a complete decision but basically said we’re good and blessed with what we have.

Well now the hubs has the itch to try for one more hoping for a boy. We’d both be overjoyed no matter boy or girl as long as baby is healthy. But I also kinda resigned myself to this is it. Part of me thinks it’s some anxiety because I have 2 girls and “know how to raise girls” and having a boy would be a foreign concept to me lol. Part of me thinks I have reservations because with each pregnancy there have been increasing complications and I’d only be older going for a third. We would definitely wait until our newborn is at least a year old to try again but how have you moms/dads come to the decision that you were done?
