First cycle after miscarriage?

So our miscarriage started on July 13th and all bleeding stopped on the 27th. We started trying as soon as the bleeding stopped (my doctor had no problem with it). But I’m not even sure when my period should start after miscarriage, if we didn’t get pregnant right away. I know some women go through hyperovulation after a miscarriage, so the possibility is real.

How long should I wait before taking a pregnancy test? I don’t want to jump the gun and be disappointed but I also don’t want to wait too long because I’m high risk.
