Should i wait? Please dont answer if you dont have kids.

Question

So I am in a group on Facebook for moms who had their babies in August last year and I have seen a lot of people say that their doctors recommended waiting until 15 months old to give the first round of the MMR vaccine. They say that babies have more antibodies at 15 months and the chances of a reaction are less likely when given at 15 months vs 12 months. My baby's 1 year checkup is on Thursday (birthday is tomorrow) and I want to know what people think about this? I am completely Pro-Vaccine and until now have always followed the CDC schedule for them but I dont know what to do for this one. I'm stumped; afraid of a reaction and afraid of a measels case too.

So the people at the CDC likely have a lot more knowledge and expertise on the subject of MMR than the random moms in your Facebook group. MMR is likely the most thoroughly studied vaccine that has ever been produced, and while there is still a lot of fear in the world surrounding it, never, ever has a single study been able to prove anything but positive benefits from it. I would listen to the CDC’s highly vetted schedule unless your pediatrician suggests waiting for a reason pertaining to your child and their specific health. 
Also, if you live in an area where there is a current outbreak of measles, I would absolutely not wait a second longer than necessary. Congratulations on becoming a mama a year ago! It sounds like you’re a wonderful, informed mother!

I have never heard that before and my pediatrician has never recommended that. There is a measles outbreak spreading and it’s where my family lives and getting closer to where I live so there is no way I’m waiting past 1 year to get it. I’m following the routine schedule. The MMR vaccine isn’t 100% effective no matter when you get it. My pediatrician said it’s about 93% effective (something like that). Because of this my pediatrician actually told me that a mild reaction (rash, slight fever) (30% of children actually get) is actually a good sign because it worked. I don’t think waiting somehow makes it magically more effective. 
I’m not judging anyone’s personal choices but I’m definitely not going to wait and risk my child actually getting measles.

It looks like the percentages are 95% at 12 months and 98% at 15 months. That doesn’t seem too significant to me. Maybe that’s why the CDC recommends it be given between 12-15 months. 
I don’t think you should overthink it honestly. It’ll probably be fine either way.

I give immunisations and I've never heard of this. The main side effect is fever. But this is generally managed with regular tylenol and subsides in a a couple days max.

Both of my daughters got their vaccines on time & neither of them had any issues with it. My oldest daughter had a bit of a rash from her 4 year old vaccines, but other than that, we’ve never had any issues.

My son did great with the vaccines at that time, I think a concern would be if he was sick before having a vaccine, the only thing they did do was now that he is 15 months they didn't give him his shots but schedule him for 18months (different shots from the 12th month ones)
