Road trip with 1yo?

We decided to take a spontaneous trip to visit some family the week after my son’s first birthday. We didn’t want to fly because it’s more expensive, especially when you factor in the pack n play, stroller, car seat and all the other luggage we will have to bring so we are just going to drive. What I’m worried about is the length of the drive, it takes about ten hours if you drive straight there. Would it be better to drive mostly at night so our son will sleep through it or during the day so it’s easier to get him out frequently to stretch his legs? First time mom and never traveled with my babe before so any advice would be appreciated! 😊

It really depends.. Does your child sleep during car rides? If so, it wouldn't be too different than driving at night... BUT usually theres low / no traffic at night, so that could potentially cut down drive time🤷 mmmm..... Maybe drive @ night..

I've been taking my 3yr old on 9hr trips from va to ny since she was born, I always drive at night. I give her a bath before we leave like her normal nighttime routine, put her pjs on and then go she would watch her tablet for a bit and be out for the count by the time we hit the highway. 
Actually just got back Sunday from spending a few days up there. 
On the trip back though I go during the day. So she'll be up, plenty of activities though and her tablet. Few more stops. But when we get home, it's bath and bed.

Most airlines let you check the pack n play, stroller, and car seat for free plus includes one carry on and one checked bag per passenger and your child flies for free up to age 2 (again, most airlines) if they are a lap child.

It’s recommended to stop every 2 hours to let the little ones out of the car seat. That might be easier to do during the day. Have a blast in your trip!

We are heading on a road trip in about 2 months it’s a 9 hour drive our lo will be 4 months . His always great in car rides but we plan on stopping every 2/3 hours to get him out. We have done a 3 hour trip just yesterday and he went really well slept the entire time I fed him gave him a bath and in the car

We usually drive part if the trip at night 4 hours or so and then start by 8am the next day she will usually nap in the car and by the time she is awake we are wherever we were going. We did a 10 hour trip in May and a 14 hour trip in June. If we have to drive more during the day we usually stop every 3 hours for a minimum of 30 minutes, we have stopped at parks, aquariums, museums stuff like that. It’s really not too bad with the stops.

I would say at night if he can sleep in a car, but 10 hours in a car seat is really far too long. It's not good for adults and it's definitely not good for a 1 year old child.
