Anyone else’s 18 month old like to open and close things?

Someone mentioned he might be stimming and the fact that he isn’t very verbal he could be autistic and I have asked his pediatrician but they keep saying they don’t see anything but who knows... not very helpful but I’m just wondering if anyone else’s kids grew out of it or not

It’s normal, they learned something new and are practicing a new skill.

My almost 13 month old loves to open and close things. She does it with the kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets a lot. She'll open and close her cereal puffs. I think its pretty normal. They are learning.

My 14 mo old does this sometimes. Mainly with the patio door. She likes to slide it open, go outside, then come back inside and slide it closed.

if you’re concerned about autism there’s a thing you can take online called an MCHAT questionnaire. my doctor made me do one at my daughters 18month apt and they have them online.
