Age difference between your kids

My husband and I have been talking about whether or not we want to try for a second child. Part of the problem is we don't have any nearby family that can help and my delivery was difficult, so it was pretty rough for us. I feel that she will be lonely without a sibling though, plus my side of the family will probably only have grandkids from me.

My husband thinks if we do have a second, we should try now to get the whole baby phase over with... but is it easier to wait until the first is out of diapers? Or is it easier to have them close together?
