Infant Car Seat First? Or get a Grow With Baby one?

Question

Hi! I was curious if most people get an infant car seat first, and then purchase the bigger “grow and go” ones that are a little bigger and can be used longer. I found a Safety 1st grow and go car seat that is for 5-40 lbs, and like my question, I’m just wondering if getting a normal infant car seat first is the better option.

I would definitely suggest an infant car seat and then upgrade to the forever car seat that stays until the car. The infant car seat comes in handy so often. You can take it out the car unlike the forever car seat that stays in the car. It really comes in handy for grocery store trips, doctors appointments, if the baby falls asleep in the car, etc. I hope that helps.

I actually originally planned to just go with the grow with them carseat that stays in the car. Decided last minute to get an infant one and pretty happy I did. It made it easy at the hospital for bringing the baby outside, and just general errands are a lot easier, dont have to wake her up getting her out of the car. I got one second hand (made sure it wasnt expired) that works with my stroller. Just my opinion though 🤷🏼‍♀️😊💗

I originally got a convertible car seat at first, when we installed it in the infant position it did not fit in my car! I have a Nissan Rogue SUV and I had to move the front seat allll the way up, which isn’t feasible... so I got a Graco Modes travel system with infant car seat and stroller. Love it! It’s been very convenient so far with doctors appointments and whatnot... taking a sleeping baby out of a car seat can be inconvenient, way easier to leave her in it sometimes 😁

I have an infant seat and convertible car seats but it’s all about preference. If I were you I would look into the Graco 4ever or something in that family of seats. I have two of them and I LOVE them. They’re compact but sturdy and they last the entire lifetime the child is in a car seat. My best friend has a 10 month old son who has been in his Grow and Go since the hospital and he’s already about to outgrow the maximum height requirements. The back of the seat doesn’t go up as high as it needs to and they aren’t cheap for you to turn around and have to buy another when they out grow it

With my first we went with a convertible (Graco MyRide 65) from day one and I just wore baby in a Boba wrap when we went to the store, restaurants, etc. I never wanted to lug around the infant seat. Now, with my second, I may get an infant seat only because it will still be winter and possible snow and ice on the ground so I don’t want to slip with baby in my arms.

I’m a FTM and decided to just go with the convertible car seat. I haven’t had any issues at all! I just babywear when we go out, which is so great — I’m hands-free and get extra baby snuggles! I’m also really petite and didn’t like the idea of having to lug a bulky infant seat around.
