thoughts from married/engaged women please!!

So, my boyfriend who I’ve been dating for a year & 9 months has been joking about getting married. Like, saying “let’s go elope”, telling me to wear my promise ring on the other hand, calling me by his last name- but I always know he’s joking. I was telling my stepmom about it and she told me that boys/men will joke about it because he’s actually seriously thinking about it. She said to actually think about it and prepare for if he does pop the question. What’s y’alls experience with this? Does him joking = him maybe actually thinking about it??
