Epidural, pros vs cons ?!

Hey, guys,  was your epidural experience positive? Shall I request it or try to do it on my own?! 👣🐥 I hate not being able to feel when to push ..

I personally had a good experience with my epidural and i would do it again. It all depends on your pain tolerance, you could always try to go without it and if pain gets to be too much just ask for one. That's the route I went because I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with my first baby.

I had epidural with both and I felt when to push.. I basically delivered both my babies myself! My labor and contractions were not bad at all but as soon as they asked me if wanted it I was like YESSS PLEASE!! And I have major scoliosis so it’s a risk and everything turned out fine. I still felt everything, just not as much pain.

I have had 4 kids all of them inductions with pitocin, my first 2 I had an epidural with no complications or issues afterwards, #3 the dr botched my epidural bad by puncturing my spinal column 5 times which lead to a horrible spinal headache. I attempted a blood patch to speed the recovery from my spinal headache but it didn’t hold which led to a 2 week recovery for my body to heal itself. With #4 I decided to go without and epidural and it was my best delivery despite my daughter having her cord around her neck that we didn’t know about even though I had an ultrasound the day I was sent for my induction and I delivered her on my own because my dr didn’t make it from her office next door to L&D in time. It really is a personal choice.

I wanted to go all natural and I had back labor so I gave in at 6cm and got the epidural. I'm so happy I did. I had a great experience and got to sleep and laugh and chat with the nurses while in labor. Before that I was screaming and crying through each contraction. I could still move my legs/feet which was my biggest fear about getting one is that I'd have absolutely no feeling but I did. I even felt when it was time to push. Just felt like a big poop. My recovery was super easy too.

I’ve had two epidurals and was able to feel when to push both times. No pain, just the urge to push. It was interesting because I didn’t think I was supposed to feel anything. 
The recovery from it wasn’t bad at all, I was able to get up and walk around after 30 min, which after having a baby, the first 30 mins goes by really quick.

I personally had a great experience with my epidural. I was so tense and contractions were back to back at 4cm still on no sleep. Once I got my epidural I took a nap and my body finally relaxed to 10cm. I was worried about the ability to push but honestly the pressure is still there so I didn’t find it hard. As for the recovery my back was stiff for about a week after where it was inserted but best choice ever for me! I’m hoping to get one again for my second baby.

My epidural helped speed up my dilation because I had my son within 2 hrs of getting. I dilated from a 5 to a 10 in that time. It was amazing for me but I was definitely out of it and kept asking while pushing what we were doing lol. It was surreal but idk if it was just because of the epidural or the natural high of giving birth for the first time.

I honestly don't know why everyone wouldn't try without first...but I guess I assume everyone's goal is a natural, unmedicated birth but perhaps that's not the case. They really push that here in Germany, though! I had a pretty fast labor (FTM) -- 6 hours from first contractions to birth. No meds. Good luck!

I personally had a terrible experience with my first epidural. But the chances of the complications I was having were like one in a million. I dont get the option of having an epidural this time, so I'm doing a lot of preparations for an all natural birth. 
Epidurals are usually positive experiences for people.

I had my epidural at 4 CMs, right before they started me on pitocin. I am glad I had it because it definitely helped until the very end, and I could feel when to push; however, it made me labor longer and one side of my body was totally numb and swollen. I also have ongoing back pain now, which I think is due to bad placement of the epidural. 
Honestly, if I don't have to be induced or have pitocin next time, I think I will want to try to labor on my own. It will be hard, but I don't want to deal with the other stuff again.
