Our Birthing Story ❤

Shirree

August 16th 2019 we checked into the hospital at 6 a.m. We had to go to the observation room where they had me get my gown on, started my IV and put me on the monitor to monitor Joannah til it was time for surgery. My best friend came up to the hospital around 7 and braided my hair so it wouldn't be a total mess trying to get it in the cap I had to wear. The birthing photographer showed up at 7:45 and the nurses took me right after to the operating room to do my spinal block. Which this time around having my repeat csection I was disappointed with the anesthesiologist... He did my spinal block 3x and ended up getting it the 3rd time. Honestly out of my whole c-section process this hurt the worst. Right at 8 they let my fiancé and birthing photographer come in. The look on his face broke my heart. He looked panicked like he knew something was wrong came right to me to kiss me on the forehead and ask me if everything was okay. They put the crap up starting cutting which this time they numbed me so good I didn't feel even little tugs like I did with my c-section in 2014. My doctor pushed really hard on my chest cavity because miss Joannah decided to try and hide in my upper ribs. The pressure from him pushing hurt quite a bit too. He pushed one last time and at 8:30 a.m on the dot our baby girl enterered this world crying. She swallowed some amniotic fluid on the way out my stomach so they had to have her cry quite a bit to try and get it out. My fiancé went with the birthing photographer to watch her get weighed and see how long she is. She weighed 7 lbs 6 ozs & 18 1/2 inches long. Afterwards he got to carry her to the nursery and push the new parent button which plays a song through out the whole labor and delivery floor. They ended up closing my incision by 9 a.m and taking me to my recovery room which they brought Joannah in immediately after for our golden hour of bonding time.

I honestly can't be anymore happy with how my repeat c-section went over all though. I didn't have to be put on oxygen like I did with my last c-section. I refused any pain meds our whole 2 day stay in the hospital plus told my doctor I didn't want any to go home with either. I still haven't taken any and she's 4 days old now. I'm walking around and doing most things that I normally do. I'm disappointed in myself a little however because my milk fully hasn't came in all the way. I told all my labor and delivery staff I wanted to strictly breast feed and they gave her a bottle after her very first bath. She hasn't showed much interest in nursing since so I'm having to supplement. I'm pumping every two hours and still stripping her down for skin to skin contact and having her latch on both sides and stay on each side for 15 minutes even if she doesn't eat to encourage her and myself to continue on our journey. I get about a half oz to an oz almost every time I pump. I'm not giving up yet but I could definitely use some positive vibes. ❤
