Do you and your spouse have joint or separate accounts? How did y’all agree upon this and what pros and cons have you experienced. Me and my boyfriend are about a year and a half into the relationship and finances came up and we were talking about how we could handle finances. I’m just used to the old fashioned joint account thing. My parents always considered it their money and not just his or hers...

We have a joint account but we didn’t do it until we got married.

Separate and we divvy up bills.  We have a joint CC and have since we were together for 6 months.  I originally was making a lot more than him and so we just had the joint cc for shared expenses and I would just ask for money to help pay it if I was getting low.  He owned our first condo and the car.  We now make about the same and have a 15 month old daughter but its been working so we never changed, just adjusted who pays what.  Been together 13 years, married for almost 8.

We have separate accounts, but we have access to each other's accounts.

Once we got engaged we got a joint account and now married share accounts. I just can’t imagine the hassle of dealing with who’s paying for what and trying to make it even. It works way easier for us to have a joint account and shared credit card. We are also both great with money and run purchases by each other as a heads up.

We have both before marriage we kept our own separate accounts. After marriage we got a joint account for all the spendings like groceries and shopping and whatnots but we kept out own accounts were our bills go out of and we can use if we wanna buy each other gifts and stuff. But me and hubby are open about the finances we share everything so we can check or use each other’s accounts if we need to but we just hardly ever do that.

My husband and I have joint checking and savings.  We got joint accounts a few months of being engaged.  We both see eye to eye on finances so it was an easy decision.
