What should I think?

My boyfriend and I have been together just over a month officially. We have been friends for about a year. He is up in Oregon for college and will be coming home soon. He told me that he wants to marry me and is going to ask my dad for permission to marry me when he gets back home. I'm only 17 and he is 18 I'll be 18 in January. I have never loved a boyfriend as much as I love him and I could see myself married to him. But I worry that maybe he is jumping the gun a little. With how fast he is wanting to get married. What do you guys think? Too soon to get engaged?

IN MY OPINION 
It is not too soon to be engaged however you should definitely be together a good while longer before you get married.

I'm all about young marriage. I don't think you should have to wait until you're in your mid to late twenties or thirties to get married just to satisfy society.

My hubby and I got engaged when I was 17 and we waited until I was 22 to get married. At that point we were together for over 6 years.

The first three years of a relationship you learn new beautiful as well as not so wonderful things about your significant other. And you need time to reflect if that's something you can see being a part of for the rest of you life.

You're 17. You don't even know how to function as an adult (bills, work, renting, ect) much less how to be one with a guy you've known for what, a year? Much less experienced anything with.

Relationships can be hard. Adult relationships where you have the added stress of living together, balancing work and the relationship, the stress of every day life, the stress of bills and money management, and everything else make it 10 times harder. Do you even know if he's the person you want to handle all of that with?

I always recommend living together before marriage. It lets the true colors of a person come out when you're together 24/7. It shows if you make a good partnership and team. If you can run a happy functioning household together. If you can support each other. It shows a lot of things that you don't know before living together.

I suggest you at least live together first and get to know each other. You don't marry just because you love someone; you marry because you're compatible, make a good team, can be each other's rock through the gold and bad times, and can run a household and life together.

Do you know a 100% that you 2 can do that on your own?

I was engaged at 18 and got married this summer at 20 (21 this month) I think it was just the right time for us. But it changes for everyone. I don't really think there's much a limit on "too young to be engaged" because you just need to make sure to take it extra serious. A lot of it is based on security and maturity, I've been paying bills while going to school full time for years, I knew I was responsible enough to get married. Please live on your own (or with roommates don't feel pressured to pay everything alone) for a year before setting a date if you're only 17 right now. I suggest premarital counseling for everyone, but especially to the young crowd (like us) definitely don't do it if you're not sure. Prepare for your marriage and not your wedding.

The other person that can answer that is u and ur bf-- if u feel it's right then it's right although the fact u have asked this question might suggest ur not ready-- talk to ur bf
