Would you be irritated?

Me and my SO have been together for 4 years and have a newborn together. We don't live together due to him staying at his parents and helping them out and me staying with mine but we dont live far from each other. I know its not a typical living situation for most but its what works for us. He comes by during the day a few times a week and spends the weekends.

We mostly talk through the week on messenger. Its just always what we've done since we met. Yesterday he tells me that his mom is really sick, acting strange and may have even had a stroke. He convinces her to go to the hospital (she had refused all day to go but he said she was not acting right) She is then admitted into ICU late last night and says he cant visit and won't know anything til the next day (today).

So all day today from 5am I've been messaging him to find out if she is ok. Finally around 7pm I call him and he doesnt answer. From not hearing anything all day I had been worrying about the situation. I finally call him and no answer. I am thinking the worst. So many different scenarios playing in my mind as to why he cant respond.

Finally around 8pm he messages me and says its been a crazy day and he's driving right now and he will tell me everything thats going on once he's not driving.

So around 8:30ish he messages me this:

Basically his first response is how he cant return his Halloween purchases at 9 at night?! Like nothing else serious is even going on? So I ignore the Halloween comment and ask about his mom.

And the rest of the day he was doing handy work around his house? For 14 hours he couldn't send a quick text to let me know everything was ok or not? While I was sitting around waiting and thinking the worst? Would this not at least slightly irritate you? Am I wrong for feeling this way? I do feel selfish because I am upset he hadnt thought to message me about his mom and I understand him getting clothes and stuff ready for his mom... but I am mad that he let me sit around all day while he did normal daily activities, install a freaking car radio, and then had time to go out to a Halloween store first before informing of what was going on. Am I acting crazy here?
