Child benefit timeframe and backdated payments?

Hi all,

I have been SO busy the past 10 weeks since my baby boy was born and I completely forgot to send off my child benefit claim form until yesterday (it won’t actually be collected from the post box until Monday). By the time it reaches wherever it needs to go, my son will be 11 weeks.

Online it says that it can take 12 weeks to process a new claim. How long did it take for your first child’s claim to be completed?

It also says they only backdate the payments by 3 months. Does anyone know if this is 3 months from when they first receive the claim form or 3 months backdated from the first payment? I’m kicking myself that I’ve only just sent it off and could lose out 3 months worth of payments 🤦🏻‍♀️
