Potty training a 16 month old?

My 16 month old tells me 90% of the time when he needs a diaper change, whether he’s gone number one or number two. He doesn’t speak much but he’ll come bring me a diaper or walk up to me tugging on his dirty one so I’ll know. He is able to take his own pants and diaper off himself but hasn’t shown any interested in the toilet much (that could be because we always keep the bathroom off limits). He’s done everything very early so it sounds crazy to potty train this early but I think he might be ready? How did you know your little one was ready for the potty?
