Why do people announce at 12 weeks instead of 14?

I have had 2 miscarriages (1st and 3rd pregnancy). This is my 4th pregnancy and second child. We are waiting to announce until we are in the clear but I see a ton of people waiting until 12 weeks instead of 14, when the second trimester starts so I’m just curious why everyone’s magic number is 12 weeks? TYIA

I announced at 11 weeks because that's when I had my first ultrasound done. I didn't tell anybody I was pregnant with my first and I felt like I went through that miscarriage completely alone. I would rather tell people early and have the support if it goes poorly than feel so alone again.

I've had two heartbreaking losses before this pregnancy. I'm 12wks 2days. We told close friends and family early on as a personal choice. I wanted the support if we suffered another loss. We waited till 12 weeks to announce to all because we just got our genetic testing results back and gender too.

I think it’s simply because statistically the miscarriage risk drops significantly after you’ve completed 12 weeks, that’s what you read and what various doctors have told me too. Unfortunately when you miscarry being  the 2-3-4-5% doesn’t help... 
With my miscarriage and this baby I’ve told family and close friends early on, even my boss (which helped a lot because I had a threatened miscarriage with this baby and he was very understanding) but I’m not going to make it public on social media. Idk, it’s what work for me now! Happy healthy 9 months either way!!!

I announced at 10w5 due to not being good at keeping secrets and genuinely being uncomfortable holding it to ourselves alone. I also feel there is never a perfectly safe zone with pregnancy as I know people who lost their babies at week 16 or at birth. It’s all one big unknown requiring faith. When you’re in it waiting for a safe zone i feel like it’s easy to be on edge. It’s a mentality thing and I rather not be on edge but try to allow myself to be happy while I am.

Everyone has different comfort levels I announced as as soon as I seen baby and heartbeat with all 4 of my pregnancies. There is a stronger chance of miscarrying if you already had one I never have so I never had the fear of losing a child that's why I'm ok with earlier announcements!

I have only told family and a few very close friends. I wont be announcing it publicly until the gender scan at week 18. Not sure why people announce at week 12 instead of 14. I had a loss at 13+5 and therefore I am waiting till week 18 ☹

We announced super early to family and close friends.  It's our first baby and we are also terrible at keeping secrets like this this. 😁  I told my coworkers too 
because I would need to take extra precautions at work.  That way they would be prepared to help if I need it.  I'm a dog groomer and need to be careful lifting larger dogs or working with ones that could potentially kick me.  Also, they would know not to schedule me too much in one day because I get tired more easily now.
