TW: Sexual Assault

Essie

So I just watched this news YouTube video. I realize that may sound odd to a few, but it's informative (they are well researched and share their sources) and it shares my frustration in this utterly confusing time in America, so I thoroughly enjoy it time to time when I see a topic I want to hear about. Anyway. It is called Some More News and they did a video called "Criminals, Judges, Prisons, Laws: Everything Wrong with Sexual Assault in America". It did a very interesting job of outlining a problem we face in America. Granted right now we face many. However this one is the way in which we deal with sexual assault aggressors. This video outlines several cases through many of our states that have let a sexual offender go on a loophole because they don't want to send the person to prison. The argument being they could be killed in prison by other prisoners due to their crime. It is insane to me that this could be happening. That a case where a man choked a woman into passing out, made her believe she would die, then ejaculated onto her (his excuse was he couldnt finish if she didnt think she would die) could not ever be seen as sexual assault because of the language in which our government defines sexual assault. What can be done? How do we change how this is viewed? I do not get how people just.. ignore this huge problem we all face. Women are sexually assaulted all the time and find no justice, most dont even report it and the men who are sexually assaulted dont even recognize it as sexual assault so they often dont get justice for themselves either... How do we change this at all?
