How do they measure baby?

Question

I thought I would only get two ultrasounds. How are they able to tell the weight towards the end of pregnancy without an US?

Answer

They measure fundal height. It’s the distance in centimeters from your pubic symphysis to the top of the uterus. Interestingly, the distance in centimeters typically corresponds to how many weeks you are. So at my 23 week appointment, I measured exactly 23 centimeters. 
They’ll also keep an eye on your weight gain. If the measurement or weight gain is too far off of what they expect, they can order a growth scan. 
The thing is, ultrasounds aren’t that accurate at determining baby’s weight either. They measure head circumference and femur length and estimate from there, but often the estimates are off.

Answer

I believe there’s one towards the end to check positioning / weight but weight can be up to 3 pounds off. I wouldnt rely on US towards the end for that
