Pacifiers ?

Question

What are your thoughts about using a pacifier?
I have always been so skeptical about using one because of the whole teeth thing or baby getting so used to it that it makes it difficult to wean him off.  
I never used one with my oldest but with this baby is different. 
There is times where he is completely full but wants to keep sucking on something so sometimes I give him my breast.
He spits up sometimes because he is full already but wants to continue sucking. 
So I bought a pacifier and he seems to like it but I use it maybe once a day or try everything i can before i even offer it. Actually this is my first time using it lol

I use them because they help soothe my kids. I’d rather them suck on a pacifier that I can take away later than their thumb 🤷🏻‍♀️

We wanted to hold off on the pacifier for at least the first few weeks to a month. We wanted to make sure breastfeeding was established, research the teeth situation etc etc. 
BUT we ended up giving him one at 2 weeks because he was just completely inconsolable at times, and it has totally improved everyone's quality of life! He was nursing for comfort which kept me awake longer than I needed to be at night, he kept over feeding and being sick, and my nipples were excruciating. Not to mention the screaming. The pacifier certainly doesn't fix it all but we are all a lot more sane!
I've totally changed my mind on them. Just my personal opinion! 😊

From my understanding more studies are showing that pacifiers at young ages aren't a bad thing. They can actually help prevent side, help reflux and more studied are showing that nipple confusion etc isn't a real thing it's more about the babies initial latch. I've been told by multiple docs and nurses that's it's ok to give a pacifier. Whatever you feel is right for your LO! 🥰

My oldest liked pacifiers and naturally weaned off of them by his choice.
My second loved his pacifier and I'm not ashamed to say he used it into toddlerhood. No issues with his teeth as a result.
My third constantly looked for the comfort of sucking so it would have been great to use a pacifier but he hated them.
I'll offer this baby one, but who knows.
I'm not antipacifier and I know they can help prevent SIDS. 
Imo you do what's best for your kiddo.

I have the same exact thoughts as you about pacifiers. I never used one with my now 2.5 year old and so grateful I didn’t have to deal with weaning. 
With this baby, there have been times I wanted to give him one but they’re all packed away in his closet. Sometimes I feel I need a little break when he’s on the boob for what seems like forever. But at the same time he’s a small baby and I want him to fatten up, so I feel I have to give him the boob anytime he demands it.

How old were your babies when you all started using a pacifier for those who have already done so? 
Mine is 6 days old today. He hates having his nappy changed and screams the place down. I was wondering if I could just use it to keep him calm then. 
I have been trying white noise since day one and  for his first nappy change this morning I’ve been able to change him without him crying and screeching.

I made sure my Newborn uses one bcuz my first two did and they can soothe themselves and was easy babies compare to my third one who weaned himself at 2 months and cannot soothe himself and always crying and was up 3-4 times at night asking for bottles and bo tricks worked with him until he turns 1 😩

I used one with my first and weaning from it was fairly easy, we ended up doing cold turkey around 21 months because he had bit it off and they became a choking hazard immediately haha and he’s had no teeth issues. With this one I might try to get away with no pacifier as I read it contributes to the four month sleep regression (because their reflex causes them to spit it out and they can’t get it back) which was HELL with my first. But I got bibs natural pacifiers instead of the mams I’d used with my first.

I’ve tried three kinds and my son wont take them.
I just wanted it for car rides to help soothe him.
I’ve watched some videos with tips on how to get them to take a paci, but no luck yet. He’s 4 weeks tomorrow. :/
