What is your opinion on the “Ellen DeGeneres & George Bush controversy”?

This is just something in the news that I haven’t seen being talked about here yet, but apparently Ellen DeGeneres & her wife Portia were seen hanging out with George W. Bush & Laura Bush at a Dallas Cowboys game this week, which angered a lot of people. Here is an article explaining it.

Keep in mind that George Bush was very anti-gay rights while he was president & most likely still is.

So, I guess my question is is this as light of a situation as Ellen is making it, just simply being friends with someone who disagrees on politics, or is it just like being friends with someone like Donald Trump or someone who causes harm to other human beings & oppresses others?

*Bonus: Would you be friends with someone who’s personal beliefs were oppressive to you or to others?
