Is it ok to use laundry detergent to clean toilet?

Today I was doing my weekly deep cleaning of the bathrooms. I realize I am out of toilet cleaning so I used a little laundry detergent in each toilet and scrubbed with toilet brush. Worked great and left the bathroom smelling really good since I use febreez scented detergent. Now I’m wondering is it ok to use laundry detergents to clean toilets?

It's okay as a temporary fix but it's not going to kill as much as a bathroom cleaner.

I’ve used it in my shampooer in a pinch when I’ve realized I didn’t have rug shampoo. It made the living room smell really good. I just didn’t use as much because of the thickness of the detergent. I also used really hot water with it.
